Child of Our Time
On Monday I watched the BBC programme Child of Our
Time — http://bit.ly/9EYBaD which looked at
personality and occupational choices, amongst many other things. It was absolutely
fascinating, almost gripping as the evidence unfolded. Their test of personality looked at six
different personality traits including agreeableness, conscientiousness and neuroticism. One
clip featured a 10-year-old girl who was extremely high on agreeableness. Her tale of
how difficult she found it to tell people what she really thought/wanted was heart-rending, and certainly made me think about people in the workplace who are extremely high on tact and diplomacy.
It was also fascinating to see the way these traits impact relationships. They found that people high on agreeableness, while struggling to succeed in a big city law firm, at least had the comfort of the longest lasting relationships! They packed an amazing amount of information into an hour, so check it out on the BBC iPlayer if you missed it — would be great to hear your thoughts.
We'd love to hear what you think about this. Please email us or post on our new
