The Gautrey Influence Profile
The style of behaviour you adopt when you seek to influence can have a significant
impact on your success. Get it right and you're moving forward quickly. Get it wrong and
you could be stuck wondering what happened.
Our research has identified four different types of behaviour that
people tend to use when it comes to influencing people...
- Determination: Some have a clear purpose, objective or mission and will stop at nothing in achieving their goals.
- Emotional Control: While others play their cards close to their chests. For them, holding back on what they really
think is the key to their strategy.
- Sociability and Networking: Not necessarily the life and soul, but getting close. The need for social interaction is
strong in this style (and often loud!).
- Tact and Diplomacy: And others just want to find the right word at the right time to have the right impact. They
pause and consider carefully how others will react, then make their move.
In reality, we are all a mix of these different behaviours, and we all have our preferred way of operating. Trouble is,
we often put rationality to one side and expect the rest of the world to be just like us. And this creates a distraction in our
ability to influence. Differences in style create distractions which limit our ability to communicate effectively.
The Gautrey Influence Profile builds awareness. It uses psychometric approaches to
quickly identify the behaviours you prefer to use (and expect in others) and reports back what others will probably
think about you if you act according to these preferences. In fact, many people wonder if we've seen their performance appraisals!
If you can gain these insights, you will quickly learn how to spot when you need to adapt your style to influence a
particular stakeholder. You will be able to make clear decisions which can easily make you more effective in your
communication and influence.
There are no rights or wrongs with Influencing Styles, just what worked! The Gautrey Influence Profile is a simple
way of exploring how to become more influential by adapting your behaviour to engage more effectively with others.
