Developing Others
The Personal Power Diagnostic is an ideal tool to help others to develop. If you are a professional trainer, coach, or simply
manage a team of people, you can purchase any number of diagnostics. When you are preparing to buy Personal Power Diagnostics,
simply select the
number of people you want to have access (i.e. the number of surveys you want to purchase). Once you have completed the purchase
process, you will then be able to give access to your colleagues, clients or team members so they can use the diagnostic.
The number you select must include yourself (unless you have already purchased a diagnostic).
As an added benefit, you are in control and can choose when they get to see their feedback report. If you like, you can use this
feature to prepare for a training session and hand out their completed reports during the session.
We usually offer discounts for multiple diagnostic purchases. If the form on the left does not allow you to select enough surveys,
contact us because that probably means we'll be able to offer you a bigger discount!

Recommended Process
The main purpose of the Personal Power Diagnostic is to stimulate your thinking about how to develop your
power and, therefore, your ability to influence. In essence, it allows you to determine which sources of power you
are most conscious of (use most often) so you can learn how to develop greater power and influence. In the simplest
way possible, here is the outline process to follow...
- Complete the Personal Power Diagnostic.
- Read the descriptions of your top three sources (click the link in the source name).
- Read the descriptions of your bottom three sources.
- Think of three key stakeholders and predict how they would have scored on these power sources.
- Reflect on the differences between the power you use and the power they use.
- Which power sources would be most useful to improve?
- Consider the notes and ideas and start to develop a plan of action to increase your power.
Another handy way to think about this, which we often use in workshops is three questions...
- What power have you got?
- What power do you need?
- How can you get more of what you need?
If you'd like individual coaching on this, we can offer single sessions — please contact
us to find out more.
Who has access to my report?
As a default, the person who invited you to use this diagnostic
will have access to your report.
As part of your training, it may have been agreed with your company to provide them with aggregated data or
even the actual reports; however, we give you our commitment that, if this is the case, we will do our best to encourage
your organisation to make the position clear.
Naturally our internal technical staff have access to all data in order to be able to provide you with the level of
service you would expect. We operate within all Data Protection legislation and have built our reputation on
the highest levels of integrity and security.
Apart from this, you are in control of who can view the report.
I got a power awareness score of 64%. What does it mean?
The Personal Power Awareness score is a rough indicator of how conscious you are about your power. We find that
many people are far more powerful than they think they are initially, and this is one of the benefits of using
the Personal Power Diagnostic. The higher your score, the more versatile and effective you are likely to be as
an influencer.
Why do you have Force as a source of power? Isn't that rather negative?
Yes, on the whole, we tend to agree that it is negative; however, it is still an options. One of the important
things to realise is that it works, and you have to choose the extent to which you use it in different situations.
Remember that this also includes assertion (which is great). Force really starts to become negative when it is overly relied
upon as a way of influencing. Sometimes you have to push yourself forward a little, particularly in groups of determined
people!
As with all sources of power, ignoring them reduces capability and versatility. Focusing too much on any one can become
a liability. Technical is a great example of this; we have seen many people become so consumed in their technical
abilities and knowledge that they abdicate responsibility to the company to make the decision — a bit like a barrister
pronouncing the opinion on a technical legality.
What does the ideal report look like?
Most reports tend to have two or maybe three really strong power sources, and also two or three sources scoring
only one or zero! What this means is that the individual has developed normally to focus on their strengths and
are probably denying the possibility that some sources could be useful even if they don't particularly like
using them (Physical is a great example of this).
The ideal report should have four or five sources scoring between five and seven. If you have this, it means you are
quite versatile, have many options for influence and can bring different types of influence into play to match
the situation you are in. It also means that you are unlikely to become trapped by your success and just one or
two types of power.
Can I do the diagnostic again in six months' time?
Well, yes you can, but you will have to register with a different email address. The reason we have not built this
option in is because we don't think it is necessary. Instead, just come back to your original report and self-score
where you think you have improved. If you have taken this development opportunity seriously we tend to think that
you'll be able to continue moving along quite well without giving us any more money!
